Topsy is a beautiful example of a brown tabby Maine Coon, a long-haired cat which is native to North America. It is a large cat, with a bushy tail and a heavy coat, well adapted to northern winters. Maine Coon cats are generally good-natured with both children and dogs and make good mousers and farm cats. They are not in any way related to the raccoon, despite the frequent resemblance of their tails to those of raccoons. They come in many colors and patterns, although the brown tabby is probably the best known.
